CRUSHED BETWEEN TRAMS

CAR BADLY DAMAGED DRIVER ESCAPES UNINJURED With the motor-car he was driving jammed between two tramcars at the corner of East Street and Upper Symonds Street shortly after seven o’clock last evening, Mr. F. W. Jones, of New North Road, escaped uninjured through one of the windows. As Mr. Jones was turning into East Street tho motor was struck sideways on by a tram on the Dominion Road route. The force of the impact turned tho car parallel to the rails and threw it against a centre-pole, where it was caught by another tramcar bound for the city. In a moment the radiator of tho motor was torn off, the running boards carried away, and the engine, chassis, and bodywork badly strained. A service truck equipped with a crane removed the wreck from the rails and later towed it away. The car was used by Mr. Jones as a taxi and was insured for £ 400.
