BLIND WORKERS
SHOULD THEY BE UNDER AWARD? CASE BEFORE COURT When the Arbitration Court was called upon to-day to consider a joint application by employees and men to bring: the Jubilee Institute for the Blind under the Northern District Rattan and Wicker Workers’ award, the judge of the court, Mr. Justice Frazer, expressed the opinion that the institute! could not. with justice, be brought wholly under the award. Mr. S. E. Wright, of the Employers' Association, said price-cutting in wicker work was being practised by the institute, and some control over conditions was desirable. His Honour said he appreciated the difficulty through competition by the institute, but he was alive also to the restricted conditions under which the institute operated. A conference of the parties had been suggested when the case was raised previously. Mr. Wright: They have never met. His Honour: It would not be fair to make the institute- a full party to the award. The circumstances will be discussed before the court on Thursday afternoon.
