LYRIC

“WOMAN WISE” Monte Blue in. “The Bush Leaguer” continues to delight patrons at the Lyric Theatre. The story concerns “Specs,” a white baseball player from the bush, who is offered a place in a Los Angeles team, and accepts because the girl of his heart came from there. To Los Angeles he went, and, unmercifully ridiculed by Skeeter McKinnon, the catcher, and others, he lost all the knack he had displayed in the home town team. It was here that the pretty lady again bobbed up, smiled on Specs, revived his fainting courage, spurred him on to win the game and to foil the attempt of her manager (for be it known the fair one owned the team on which Specs played) in his attempt at dirty work. “The Bush Leaguer” is a wholesome, amusing, and wonderfully human piece. Monte Blue, who has endeared himself to so many millions, as every sort of redblooded hero, outdoes even himself in this new role. Also on the same programme is “Doman Wise,” featuring June Collyer, William Russell, and Walter Pidgeon, in a story with Persia as its background.
