Akarana Club There was a large attendance of members of the Akarana Club at the official opening for the season held last Saturday, over 100 members taking part in the mixed foursomes. The links were officially declared opened by the president of the club, Mr. Charles Hodges, who congratulated the club on the excellent progress made during the first year of its life. The membership lists were nearly full, and everything pointed to a bright and prosperous year. Mr. Hodges made reference to the excellent work of the staff, and that of the professional, Basil Smith. During the evening a social and club dance was held in the clubhouse, when the trophies won during the afternoon were presented. The winners were: Miss Coath and Mr. J. Swanson, 100—17, 83; Mrs. Cox and Mr. G. M. Cox,6*loo—l7, S 3; Miss Joyce and Mr. J. A. Wallace, 97—13, 84. The competition was close and interesting, over 20 cards returned showing net scores between 84 and S 7. Pupuke Club The members of the Pupuke Golf Club played a oogey handicap on Saturday for a trophy presented by Mr. S. R. Norris. The best cards returned were: R. B. Parker, 15 —11, 2 down; H. T. Gould, 14—11, 3 down; B. Goldwater, 14—11, 6 down; M. E. Thompson, 14—11, 7 down; F. H. Mingay, 10—8. 8 down; A. W. Clark, 14—11, 8 down; E. Harper, 18—14, 8 down. On Saturday next a handicap medal round will' be played by players with handicaps of 18 and over, for a trophy presented, by Mr. H. T. Gould. Glendowie Ladies’ Following is the draw for the L.G.U. medal match, to be played by members of the Glendowie Ladies’ Golf Club tomorrow: Mrs. Hill v. Mrs. Browne, Mrs. Miller v. Mrs. Dickey, Mrs. Stanley v. Mrs. Warren, Miss Cullen v. Mrs. Hayes, Miss Searell v. Miss Arneil, Miss Wilson v. Miss Maden, Miss M. Hill v. Miss Appleyard, Miss O. English v. Mrs. Markwick, Miss M. English v. Miss Shalland, Miss Katterfeldt v. Miss Scott. C Grade, over 12 holes.—Miss Prosser v. Miss Sutton, Miss Eales v. another, Miss Meadows v. Miss Wells, Mrs. Watkins V. Mrs. Wright. Waitemata Club The Waitemata Golf Club opened its season with mixed foursomes. There was a strong northerly blowing, which affected the play of most competitors, otherwise the playing conditions were ideal. The best cards returned were: Mr. Hogan and Mrs. Walsh, 89—20, 69; Mr. G. Jackson and Mrs. Neville, 90—19, 71; Mr. and Mrs. Gabites. 100—28, 72. GOLF
