SATRAP AND GOLD CUP

TN the Awapuni Gold Cup tomorrow Satrap will be opposed by Laughing Prince, Mask, Reremoana, Star Stranger and Hynanna—a great sextette. There is a straight run from the barrier for two furlongs, after which the horses will be on the turn most of the way, the back and home straights Igeing little over a furlong each. Therefore the importance of getting to the front in Satrap’s case will be speedily recognised. If he can secure the lead then the three-year-old will be a severe thorn in his rivals’ sides, and he may do so, too. It is a brilliant field, in which Satrap may be the actual favourite, but it should be a fine betting race with such an open contest. Star Stranger and Hynanna may both trouble the three-year-old.
