AN INSPIRING JOB

An unusual job for a woman, that of deputy-state game warden, is held by Mrs. Caryll V. Hoffman. She is in charge of the policing of the Cuter State Park in South Dakota, U.S.A., where President Coolidge’s summer lodge is located. The reservation, controlled by Mrs. Hoffman, who is the only woman deputy-State game warden in the United States, is the largest park in the country, and the task she has set for herself is proportionately big, for she is not only interested in policing the park, but also in preserving its great natural wealth. “Women cooped up in factories —1 wonder how they exist!’ Mrs. Hoffman says. “My summer work begins at 4 in the morning, when I leave my tent on the shore of Sylvan Lake, and a day does not end until dark. It is strenuous, but it is just about the most healthful work in the world, and the most inspiring.”
