CYCLE RACING AT BLANDFORD PARK

SATURDAYS EVENTS Saturday’s racing at Blandford Park Stadium was spoilt by a fall in the last lap of the one mile open handicap when the two leading riders. I. George and H. Pelham, came down, in fighting out what promised to be an interesting finish. The old timers’ race also created some amusement, as two of the starters could not keep their racing steeds on the marked track. They had to pull up to prevent a fall, much to the amusement of the crowd oi youngsters present. The racing was again fast, as the times show. The following are the results: One Mile Open Handicap. —X. Heale> (100yds), 1; H. Lawler (70yds), 2; J. Henderson, 50yds. 3. Time, 2min 25sec There were seven starters in this event, which was run straight out. \V. Archer 140yds and I. George 130yds. the two limit riders, made no mistake about setting a fast pace, and were in charge for four laps. The back men were up with the middle markers in three lans. Pelham. Hill and Rae nutting in some good work. At two laps to go Pelham came from the back with a rush that dropped his bunch. Going on. he tackled George over the last half-lap, but just when the finish appeared interesting, George’s inside pedal struck, and threw him, Pelham going over the top of him. This left Healey, Lawler and Henderson a clear run, and they finished in that order, Healey winning comfortably. Two Mile Open Handicap. —H. Pelham (50yds), 1; K. Rae (140yds), 2 J. Henderson (80yds). 3. Time, smin 13sec. The limit rider. Archer, was out in front on his own for five laps, when he was joined by the middle markers Healey and Rae. These three put in some good pacing, Rae especially doing good work. Pelham was within striking distance of the field at four to go, and although covered in bandages was going well. Taking the lead at a lap and a-half to go, he held it to the finish, winning by half a length from K. Rae, who finished with a great burst of speed. The winner came in for quite a good reception. , Old Ti mer*’ Race. 2 laps.—G. Herring (70yds), 1; A. Herring- (70yds), 2; G. Knight (100yds). 3. Time, 53 3-5 see. Also started: C. Marriott, E. Rivers. J. Willoughby and W. Curvengen. The placed veterans showed great headwork. Though fairly liberally treated by the handicapper. they evidently had something in reserve in the last old-timers’ event held by the club, as the winner won all the way on Saturday. Future races of this kind will certainly be looked forward to by the cycling fans at Biandford Bark.
