ANNUAL HARBOUR RACE

SATURDAY WEEK’S EVENT PONSONBY CLUB’S GALA The combined swimming - carnival and harbour race, an annual affair with the Ponsonby Swimming Club, will take place at the Shelly Beach Baths on Saturday, February 18. Entries for the carnival are coming in well, and it promises to be a most successful gathering of the best of Auckland’s swimmers. X. K. Sylow, the new breast-stroke champion of New Zealand, will be competing, as will R. Webster, the young swimmer who made an unsuccessful attempt to swim Cook Strait. There will be a host of other-good swimmers in action, and sprint and distance events are plentifully sprinkled over the programme. The event of the day will be the annual harbour race. This year the course will be a triangular one, of approximately one mile and a-half, as compared with the usual distance of three-quarters of a mile. The start and finish will be at the baths. The course lies inside the new boat harbour off the baths, and everyone will be able to see the race throughout its duration.
