BOOKMAKERS BAFFLED
WRONG HORSE LISTED HEARTBURNING IN WELLINGTON (Special to THE SUN.) WELLINGTON, To-daj*. There was much heart-burning in Wellington this morning on the part of bookmakers and early double-takers on Saturday night, when acceptances were posted for to-day. Crown Area was shown as an acceptor* in the Metropolitan Handicap, and Money Order as a non-acceptor. The former was at once made a short-priced favourite, and it is understood racebooks went to press showing Crown Area as being in. It was some time before the error was realised, and printed books were destroyed and new ones run off, these not arriving on the streets until 9 this morning. This created, consternation, for most pencillers reported a full book for Crown Area all ways, but as this horse did not accepf, double-takers get their investments back. But it meant a big thing for bookmakers, whose Sunday work interviewing clients was to a large extent wasted. Money Order is to start in the Metropolitan, which will be run this afternoon at seven minutes to five. Cotton rode him an indifferent race cxa Saturday, when he looked a good thing beaten.
