RARAKAU’S CONSISTENCY DAVE WINS UNDER HEAVY IMPOST (Special to THE SUN.) WHANGAREI, Saturday. Fine though overcast weather prevailed for the Bay of Islands Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday at Kawa Kawa. The totalisator handled £9,235, against £8,369 last year, an increase of ;£866. Gay Cockade Wins Nicely * In the Hokianga Handicap Gay Cockade was the first to show out from an eary start, followed by KawhitL The latter led along the back, and at the three-furlong post Gay Cockade went away with Kildeer, passing Kawhiti, who dropped back in tlie run home. Joke form finished strongly three lengths behind Gay Cockade, and a similar distance away came Kildeer. Taumua was fourth and Kaiheremai next. A Poor Star In the Kaikohe Handicap, from a poor start, in which most of the field was left standing, Winning Lass, British King and Fiery Lady got out quickly. Coming into the straight Bright Dawn and Marble Mount showed up, the former going on to win by a length from Fiery Lad, who was a length ahead of Winning Lass. Marble Mount was fourth. Rarakau’s Cup A field of five contested the Kawakawa Cup. From an even break. The Author was first to show out, but passing the post the first- time the order was Right and Left, Rarakau, The Author, Pita and Wee Marble. Round the back the positions were unaltered, but in the straight Pita moved up followed by Wee Marble, and in a good run home Raraku won by a * length, Pita beating Wee Marble by a head for second place. ONE FOR WANING LIGHT Waning Light and Joke Form showed up early in the Counties Handicap, the latter taking the lead round the back, followed by Gay Cockade, Waning Light and Michael. At the distance Waning Light came through to win easily by two lengths from Joke Form, who was the same distance in front of Marbie Mount. Scrap o’ Paper, who was again fractious at the barrier, and started behind the field, was fourth. A SMALL FIELD There were only three starters in the Maromaku Handicap, which provided a very close finish. Takutama led out, followed by Arch Queen and Fiery Lad, the order being the same till nearing the finish, when Fiery Lad threw out a strong challenge and beat Takutama by a nose. The latter carried two-thirds of the total investments, allowing the winner to return an acceptable dividend. WANING LIGHT'S DUAL SUCCESS Arch Queen was smartest aw.|y in the Ohaewai Handicap, folIqwed by Romaj Abbey, Waning Light and Rignt and Left in that order. Round tlie back a wide opening was made for Waning Light, who slipped through and obtained a break of ’about four lengths. Down the straight a most exciting tussle ensued, Waning Light getting the victory by a neck, with Arch Queen a head further back. DAVE CARRIES BIG BURDEN In the Pakaraka Handicap, Dave showed up early from an even start, and at the half-mile Winning Lass was in the van, with Dave and Bright Dawn next. In the straight Dave met interference, but came again to win comfortably by two lengths from Bright Dawn, who was three lengths ahead of Aurumavis. Winning Lass was a bad last. A GLOAMING PRICE Corinax was made a Gloaming favourite in the Russell Handicap, carrying nearly half the total investments. From an excellent start, Just Quietly and Pita showed up early, followed closely by Illingar. This was the order into the straight, where Corinax moved up, with Rarakau and Wee Marble following. In the run to the post Corinax came away to win comfortably by two lengths from Rarakau, who was a length ahead ol Wee Marble. Illingar was next. JUDICIAL COMMITTEE ACTIVE H. Dulleu, rider of Roman Abbey in the Ohaeawai High-weiglit Handicap, was asked by the judicial committee to explain his handling of his mount. After hearing evidence, the committee found that Dulieu committed an error of judgment, and a warning was administered. For interference with Wee Marble in the final event, J.
