TAKANINI TENNIS CLUB

QUEEN CARNIVAL DANCE A large number of supporters and friends of the Sports Queen of the Takanini Tennis Club carnival gathered in the Takanini Parish Hall on Saturday night, and spent a very enjoyable evening’s dancing, as well as furthering the interests of their candidate. The carnival is to help provide necessary funds for the laying down of courts for the recently-formed tennis club. Mrs. Collings, Mr. Ballard and Mr. L. Tonkin provided the major portion of the musical programme, while a couple of extras were supplied by Miss Lily Grant and Mr. Hasse. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. Waller, and the women’s committee served a dainty supper. Keen interest was displayed in a jazz competition. Miss W. Simpkins and Mr. Hasse were adjudged the winners, with Miss L. Grant and Mr. C. Nicholson running them very closely. A couple of Monte Carlo waltzes were also danced, adding gaiety and interest to a very successful function.
