PAPAKURA METHODIST CHOIR

FAREWELL SOCIAL A complimentary social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Woodhouse and family, of Clarke Road, Papakura, on Friday evening by the members of the Papakura Methodist church choir on the eve of their departure for North Auckland. There was a large attendance of members of the choir and congregation to marke their appreciation of the work of Mr. and Mrs. Woodhouse in the various activities of the church, particularly the splendid work performed by Mrs- Woodhouse in the choir, with which she has been associated for 13 years. The gathering was presided over by the pastor of the congregation, the Rev. J. W. Elliott, who in a few brief remarks eulogised the interest Mrs. Woodhouse had .taken in the choir, and Mr. Woodhouse, who had only recently been appointed a trustee. He desired, on behalf of the congregation, to say that they all deeply appreciated their services, and he hoped that in their new home the northern part of the province would be pleasant, and that they would enjoy the sunshine of prosperity. On behalf of the members of the choir, Mr. T. C. Seaton, choirmaster, presented Mrs. Woodhouse with a handsome silver teapot. He also mentioned that Papakura was losing a very useful citizen in Mr. Woodhouse who as captain of the fire brigade,' had performed a good deal of self-sacriflc-ing work. Papakura owed him a deep debt of gratitude for his lively interest in brigade matters. Captain Woodhouse suitably replied, saying it had always been a real pleasure to do anything he could to further the interests of anything with which he was connected. Mrs. Woodhouse, also, in a very neat little speech, thanked the members of the choir for their handsome gift. During the evening the following members of the choir contributed musical items: Mrs. R. Lever. Miss Hilda Beams, Mrs. Renwick, Miss D. Martin, and Mr. T. C. Seaton.
