PRIEST DROWNED
COLLAPSED WHILE BATHING FATALITY AT WESTPORT Press Association. WESTPORT, Tuesday. The body of the Rev. Father Bowc, parish priest of Westport, was found floating in the water at North Beach to-day. He went for a bathe and apparently had a heart attack while in the water and expired. The deceased priest was a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, and was about 50 years of age. He was educated at St. Kieron's College, Kilkenny, and ordained by Hr. Brownigg, Bishop of Ossory. Hq arrived in New Zealand in 1904 in company with Father Kelly, of Wellington, and held curacies in Hawera and Palmerston North. His ability was early recognised and he was promoted successively to Carterton, Hannevirke and Wellington (St. Joseph’s) as administrator to Archbishop O’Shea. Finally he became parish priest at Westport, where his good work was universally recognised.
