SCHOOLBOY’S GRIT
A PLUCKY EXAMPLE An example of self-sacrifice and grit on the part of a public schoolboy who came to New Zealand about two years ago is vouched for by a Te Kuiti resident. Owing to the war the youth’s father fell on evil days, which necessitated cutting short his college career, and the youth came to New Zealand to learn farming. He was willing and intelligent, with a determination to get on, and during the first 18 months he succeeded in sending his people a substantial sum. Being desirous of learning sheep farming he secured a position in the King Country. However, his people’s condition at Home became worse, and he sacrificed his ambition and took a position on a Waikato dairy farm, where the wages were higher, his sole object being to help his people still further. He is now working 16 hours a day and sacrificing his prospects for the future. A few hundred young men of this stamp would indeed form a valuable asset to New Zealand.
