SUNBEAMS BRING A RAY OF CHEER

VISIT TO GAOL

Thirty-five children, members of the Royal Australian Sunbeams Company now touring New Zealand, visited Mount Eden Gaol yesterday morning and performed for the prisoners. This was the New Year entertainment arranged by Mr. Falls, and was made possible through the courtesy of Mr. A. Clealand and the management of the National and Prince Edward Theatres. The Sunbeams had chosen their second production, “Carnival Time,” as one suited for a New Year’s Day treat, and their performance was certainly appreciated by their audience. The numerous encores were often sustained so long as to present a serious difficulty in continuing with the next item. The audience liked the acrobatic act the best, and watched with tense interest | each operation of forming pyramids | and tumbling. The Prince Edward Theatre OrchesI tra, under Mr. Ern Beacham, played I the musical score.

The children all enjoyed the outing and were not in the least awed by the g£im walls and battlements of the prison.
