Fire at Onehunga. —An unoccupied house in Mount Smart Road, Onehunga, was slightly damaged by fire shortly after three o'clock on Sunday morning. The building is owned by Mr. Hargreaves. Palmerston North’s Record. —Births registered at Palmerston North in the past year were a record, totalling 600, compared with 593 last year. A slight increase was shown in deaths. Seaman Injured. —As a result of being' struck on the head on Saturday morning, J. Woolsgrove, a seaman on the Kartigi, was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. His condition is not serious. Found Drowned. —At the inquest on John Herman Hoft, who was found in the water at Petone after cries were heard at night, a verdict -was returned of found drowned, there being no evidence to show how deceased came to be in the water. Grass Fire Threatens Campers. —A grass fire at Long Bay yesterday afternoon threatened several tents before the blaze was extinguished, chiefly through the efforts of the Shackleton troup of Bov Scouts, which is in camp near by. Little damage was done. New Plymouth Pioneer Dies. —The death has occurred of a well-known New Plymouth resident. Miss Lydia Shaw, aged 93 years.
