“ROSE OF THE GOLDEN WEST”
COMING TO PRINCESS One of filmland’s greatest directors, George Fitzmaurice, has turned to history for the subject of his latest glamorous film effort. George Fitzmaurice, the man who made “The Tender Hour,” “The Bark Angel,” “One Night of Love” and a score of other pictures which have been unqualified successes, is the director of “Rose of the Golden West,” the First National super-special which will be shown at the Princess Theatre on Thursday. The story, featuring Mary Astor and Gilbert Roland, is a vivid, thrilling romance of California under the Span-
isli rule, at the time when the dons and the missions were being supplanted by Yankees ambitious to bring California under the rule of the United States. The historic town of Monterey, first capital of California, is the scene of
much of the action of this thrilling tale. Fitzmaurice has the record of having directed practically every great star in filmdom, including Pola Negri, Billie Bove, Ronald Colman and many others. He is a screen artist of unquestioned greatness, and "‘Rose of the Golden West” again shows his masterful handiwork.
