FIRE IN CITY SHOP

FROCKS AND FURS BURNED

Costumes, furs and frocks were damaged last evening by a fire which broke out in The Vogue draper’s shop, Pacific Buildings, shortly after 7.30. The City Fire Brigade was soon on the scene, and located the seat of the fire in the back of the building. Dense smoke pouring out of the doorway attracted a large crowd of spectators. Most of the stock has been spoiled by smoke or water. The owner, Mr. Schneidemann, is thought to be a heavy loser, as the insurance on the stock, £1,500 in the Royal Exchange Office, does not cover the damage. The building is owned by the Pacific Club.
