“MANON LESCAUT”

ANOTHER U.F.A. CLASSIC 1G ~^ 00t I. notable Continental productions is still occupying attention in the British press. Dr. Arthur Robison is still at work on new photo-plavs, his latest being a screen version of the novel, ‘ Manon Lescaut.” Described as one of the greatest geniuses of the screen, Dr. Robison, who before the war was a Munich physician, is remarkable also, in. being the only Continental film-producer who really understands the human heart His characters come to life, despite their sometimes last century handicap. In “Manon Lescaut” we seem to be eavesdropping with him on a couple of young people whose affairs are extraordinarily vital and heart-wringing. One feels that Dr. Robison would, if he could, call the whole world to witness that there has never been such a pitiful tale of persecuted love as in this epic drama which lie has extracted with more than from the wellknown novel of tlie Abbe Prevost. The title role more than suits the exotic beauty and indolent art of Miss Lya de Putti, and Mr. Vladimir Gaidorov, of the Moseow Art Theatre, also proves to be more than at home among the high pressure emotions of the Chevalier des Grieux. “Manon Lescaut” will be seen in Auckland shortly.
