NEW PLAYS FOR WILLIAMSONS
WHILE in Net * York, recently ** Sir George Tallis engaged May Beatty , the Australian actress, for an important part in “Hit the Deck” the play in which Annie Croft wilt appear after “The Girl Friend.’* “Princess Charming /* another of the new musical comedies he had secured, would, he said, he produced in Australia early in the New Year. A more ambitious piece musically was “The Vagabond King,** which would afford a pleasant change, from the lighter comedies. Among other new plays, in addition to those which have previously been announced, are “The Squall ” and “The Night S tick/* Leon Gordon is to return to play the lead in a novel piece entitled “The Trial of Mary Dugan.” The novelty here is that the whole action takes place in a courtroam, and the curtain is not lowered, because the audience is supposed to be the fury. Sir George Tallis added that he hoped to conclude negotiations with Robert Loraine to make an Australian tour in Bernard Shaw productions.
