MUNICIPAL MARKET
CHRISTCHURCH VENTURE STARTS STALLHOLDERS OPTIMISTIC (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. As yet there are no signs of feverish activity in business at the Christchurch City Council’s municipal market in Worcester Street. The stalls were open for occupation at T o’clock this morning, but the prospective occupants found the hour too early to open up shop. The first of them did not arrive until about nine. Altogether 12 of the 16 stalls are taken. Those in charge of the stalls are openly optimistic as to the success of the scheme. It is anticipated that by to-morrow all the stalls -will be taken. With only comparatively few stalls open, it is hardly possible to make many comparisons between the prices asked and those ruling in shops, but as far as can be gauged stall-holders are not asking anything unreasonable for their goods. General supervision over the market, which is open three days a week, is being exercised by Mr. E. Orchard, of the Christchurch City Council staff.
