Ice Cream on Sunday.—A man named Henry G. Carter was fined £1 at Petone yesterday for delivering ice cream on a Sunday.
Record Motor Sales. —Reports from Wellington indicate that sales of motor-cars for the year 1927 will constitute a record.
Hotel Thefts. —Basil Hodgson, aged 20, charged at the Police Court today with stealing a watch and handbag from city hotels, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment
Special Christmas Train. —A special passenger train is to be run between Frankton and Morrinsville on Christmas Eve. Further particulars are advertised in this issue by the Railway Department.
Pensions, a Day Earlier. —About 5,000 people in Auckland might have collected their pensions to-day. Comparatively few of them took the opportunity to apply a day earlier than the usual “23rd.”
Fall of Forty Feet. —A milk lorry, driven by Roy Packey, of Kaeo, fell 40ft over a bank at a bad corner on the Omauna run. The driver and three passengers were not hurt.
Takapuna Grass Fire.—A grass fire on a vacant section in West well Road. Belmont, yesterday, was easily extinguished by the Takapuna Fire Brigade.
Sailors’ Gift to Blind.—A framed photograph of H.M.S. Diomede, inscribed in silver, and also a seasonal
gift of £lO, have been forwarded to the Jubilie Institute for the Blind, by the ship's company of the cruiser.
Bus Axle Breaks. —The front axle of a City Council motor-bus broke as the vehicle was turning from Remuera Road into Orakei Road yesterday morning. There were few passengers in the bus, and no one was injured. Cheaper Gas.—The Wellington Gas Company from January 1 reduces gas by 2d a thousand, which is equivalent to a reduction on the Wellington consumption of £4,750. —Press Association.
Religious Cloak.—A vagrant, John Miller, who represented himself as a Seventh Day Adventist and collected money from members of the sect, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment at Gisborne to-day.
Rubbish Fire Spreads. —A rubbish fire in Tui Road, Mount Eden, this morning spread to gorse on an adjoining section. Two houses were threatened when the Mount Eden Fire Brigade was called out. The blaze was subdued after a hard struggle. Little damage was done.
Grocer’s Shop Ablaze. —Fire damaged one wall of a grocer’s shop at the corner of Ponsonby Road and Hepburn Street, this morning. The shop, which is occupied by Mr. R. C. Robinson, is insured for £l,lOO in the Standard Office.
Back Injured in Fall. —Through falling from a ladder while trimming a tree yesterday, John Saltridge, aged 59, received injuries to his back. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St- John Ambulance and an X-ray examination made. Mr. Saltridge lives in Quadrant Road, Onehunga.
Taxi Driver For Trial. —In the Palmerston North Police Court J esterdaj, Frank Lawrence Farr, taxicab proprietor, was committed for trial on a charge of being the driver of a motor vehicle which he drove negligently, thereby causing the death of Jeremiah Brosnan. The latter died from injuries received when knocked down tqr Farr's bus. —Press Association,
