LATE MR. EDWIN WHITE
PROMINENT HORTICULTURIST Mr. Edwin White, who died suddenly at his home, Frater Avenue, Milford, on Wednesday, at the age of 79, was born in Dover, and arrived in Auckland in the ship Langstone in 1879, and established a cabinet-making business at Ponsonby. From his early years in New Zealand he was connected with the West Street Church of Christ, and, in 1888, he went to Hamilton as missioner for the New Zealand Evangelical Association. He remained for about 25 years in the Waikato district, farming at Newstead, Tuhikaramea and Frankton. In later years he was a builder at Kingsland and a fruit-farmer at Henderson, and his last occupation was that of land agent in and around Auckland. For about 20 years he had been a Fellow of the Royal Horticultural Society. Mr. White is survived by his ■wife, one son, Mr. F. E. White, Henderson, and two daughters, Mrs. IT. Coope and Mrs. A. E. N. Snook, both of Hamilton. There are 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
