OFFICER RELEASED
SPYING CHARGES FAIL SOVIET AND SWEDEN By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. STOCKHOLM, Tuesday. Lieutenant Norberg, of the Swedish Coastal Defence, who was arrested on a charge of supplying military secrets to the Soviet, ha.s been released. The Government has issued a statement to the effect that the police interrogation showed that Norberg handed a representative of the Soviet certain books of a military nature, but they contained nothing on which to charge him with an indictable offence. The Soviet Legation also states that the charges of espionage made against Norberg were unfounded. Nevertheless, the officials admit that Norberg’s relations with, the Legation were irregular. They make honourable amends and state that they are effecting a speedy change in the Legation’s military personnel.—A. and N.Z.
