NEARING THE FINALS The University Club’s events are nearing' the finals. In the men’s singles a surprise win was that of Iv. A. North, who beat Entwistle, an A grade player, in the third round, 6—3, 3—6, 6 —3, North’s more consistent driving proving too strong for his opponent. North went down to J. C. Andrews in the fourth round, however. The winner tried a judicious mixture of heavily-cut forehand and a powerful backhand, and won 6—3, 6—3. By defeating Andrews, Hubble qualifies for the final.

The other half of the draw is not so far developed, and is chiefly remarkable for Bowden’s win over Nicholson, another A grade man.

The men’s doubles has reached the semi-finals, where Nicholson and Hardy meet Andrews and North and Hubble and Turner meet Scott and McDonald.

The women’s singles is also in the semi-final. Miss Whitelaw opposing Miss P. Miller and Miss Adams, whose steadiness won her a victory over Miss Mueler and Miss E. Miller. In the women’s doubles Misses E. Miller and Mueller by defeating Miss P. Miller and Grenier emerge into the finals, where they will meet the winners of the Misses Batty and Hume and Misses Brownlee and Whitelaw match. In the semi-finals of the mixed doubles, Hunter and Miss P. Miller meet Hardy and Miss Mueller and Turner and Miss Whitelaw meet the winners of Hubble and Miss E. Miller and Bowden and Miss Wann.
