DOUBLE SOMERSAULT OVER 20-FOOT BANK

CAR SKIDS OFF ROAD (Special to THE SUN.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. After somersaulting twice in its descent over a 20ft. bank, a fiveseater motor-car landed upside down at the edge of a swamp below the Okoke Road, on the main road between Auckland and New Plymouth, last evening. Mr. W. Honeyfield, of Tataraimaki, who was in the back seat, was thrown through the hood and received injuries to his back. He was brought into New Plymouth Hospital, where he is progressing favourably. Mr. R. G. Ridling, senior agricultural Instructor under the Taranaki Education Board, and Mr. A. J. Luxton, of Omata, who were in the front seat, were able to crawl from underneath unhurt, although considerably shaken.

A large motor-lorry was travelling in the opposite direction toward New Plymouth, and in order to give it room to pass on a sharp corner Mr. Ridling turned his car to the side. As soon as he attempted to get back to the centre of the road the wheels skidded in some loose shingle. The car ran about 20ft. along the edge of a bank, and then slid over, falling just on the edge of a swamp.

The car, which was considerably damaged, was later brought back to the road.
