COMPETITIONS LOSS

WELLINGTON SOCIETY PUBLIC SUPPORT LACKING (Special to THE SUN.) AVELLIXGTON. Friday. The report and balance-sheet of the Wellington Competitions Society, to be presented at the annual meeting next week, show a debit balance of £236 2s 4d. While congratulating the society upon its continued success from an artistic standpoint, the executive regrets that in spite of strenuous efforts in economising the financial position was not so satisfactory. “There are no doubt various causes contributing to this fact, but the chief reason is that the society does not obtain the measure of support from the general public that it has every- right to expect. Year in and year out we see the same audiences and friends of competitors, with a fair number of members of the society, but of the general public but a sprinkling.”
