“RUDDIGORE”
HIS MAJESTY’S ON SATURDAY There Was a Jrery „large demand for seats *\k>ten. the plans were opened this morning for the approaching J. C. Williamson, Ltd., Gilbert and Sullivan Comic Opera season, which begins on Saturday night next, when that very delightful comic opera, “Ruddigore,” will be staged here for the first time. Owing to the brevity of the season and to the fact that during its duration no fewer than nine operas are to be staged, “Ruddigore” can only be played for three nights, and a special afternoon performance will be staged on Wednesday afternoon next. On Wednesday and Thursday evening of next week “The Mikado” will be revived, and on Friday and Saturday nights and on Saturday afternoon, December 2 and 3, “Patience”; on Monday, December 5, ‘'The Yeoman of the Guard”; on Tuesday, “Iolantlie”; on AVednesday afternoon and evening of December 7, “The Gondoliers”; on Thursday December 8, “H.M.S. Pinafore”; on Friday December 9, “Princess Ida”: and the season will close with two performances of “The Pirates of Penzance” on Saturday* December 10. The present Gilbert and Sullivan organisation is undoubtedly the strongest combination of singers and comedians which has ever appeared in the works of the beloved collaborators, including as it does Mr. James Hay, the popular tenor, Miss Strella AVilson, whose glorious soprano voice is heard at its best in “Ruddigore,” Mr. Bernard Manning. Miss Winifred Wililamson, Patti Russell, John Ralston and the brilliant Gilbt -t and Sullivan comedian, Mr. Charles Walenn. “Ruddigore” is considered by critics in England as being the master work of Gilbert and Sullivan, and its recent revival there created a sensation.
