PROVINCIAL SHOWS
SOME FINE EXHIBITS STOCK QUALITY HIGH (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANG ARE!, To-day. There was not a large attendance at the opening day of the* Whangarei A. and P. Show, but many visitors are expected to-day to witness the popular events. There are 974 entries, a pleasing feature being the increased entries in the sheep classes. The Jerseys are excellent and the Friesians show marked improvement. Aberdeen Angus and Hereford® included some fine animals. The Southdown exhibition was considered fit for any show. In this section G. W. and H. Hutchinson secured two championship, six first, four second, and three third prizes. Details of the principal awards are: SHEEP Southdown. —Ram, H. McCarroll, 1; ewe suckling own- lamb, G. W. and H. Hutchinson, 1 and champion, 2 and reserve! champion. Romney Marsh.—Stud of over 30 j months' ram, J. and W. Miller, 1 and re- | serve champion; over 18 months and under 30 months, W. Atkinson, 1 and champion; G. E. Child, 2; Romney ewe suckling own lamb. W. Atkinson, 1 and 2; ewe under IS months, R. Stone, 1, champion, 2 and PIGS Berkshires. —Boar, over 12 months, J. Rock’s “Ardross Trades,” 1 and reserve champion; under 12 months, J. Rock’s “Sunny Croft Craftsman,” 1 and champion; sow over 12 months, J. Rock’s ‘‘Velle Bit Maid,” 1 and champion; under 12 months, J. Rock's “Sunny Croft Opal,” 1 and champion. Walker, 2. THAMES VALLEY Glorious weather prevailed for the People's Day at the Thames Valley A. and P. Show at Te Aroha yesterday. The attendance was estimated at 3,000 and tho show proved a great success. Additional championships are: Harness Horse. —Janies Handley s Polly. Hack.—Miss Eva Strange's Joy. HENDERSON V Kose Show and sale of work took place in Henderson on Tuesday In the !i,ihllc hall There was an excellent d splay of rose blooms. Messrs. J. Bush. Henderson, and Cutler. Swanson, being tho principal exhibitors. The stalls ill did good business and the proceeds will go to the Henderson School fund to assist in providing a dental clinic. WAIUKU The annual summer show was held m . rmblic hall at W aiuku on Wedn icd'iv when there was a good display offoses, cut flowers and school children's exhibits. Special prizes were won as follow: Sellars Cup and Auckland H. and I. Society's certificate of merit for 12 distinct varieties, Mrs. F. j 1 Bregmen; champion bloom. Mr. A.
