KISSING MARY
Shaw Wouldn’t Mind TALK ON THE FILMS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Saturday. Increasing attention is being paid by leaders in literary circles in Britain to the possibilities of motion picture films. Mr. Bernard Shaw, speaking at a trade exhibition, said exhibitors were obsessed with what they called sex appeal. “Where,” h e asked, “is the sex appeal about Dean Inge’s sermons, yet crowds go to St. Paul’s to hear him preach? Crowds •also listen to lectures and political Mr. G. B. Shaw .speeches. Where is the sex appeal "about Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford, yet some is often injected into their films, usually toward the end? “In spite of my age I would not be averse from kissing Mary Piekford, but I would find it extremely tantalising to see another man kissing her.” He stressed the need of greater variety. He commended the British films dealing with nature studies. —A. and N.Z.
