WELLINGTON Y.M.C.A.’S BIG SCORE PATRICK REAPPEARS AT CHRISTCHURCH Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sunday. Ideal weather prevailed yesterday for outdoor sports. Senior cricket games resulted: Midland, in its first innings against Y.M.C.A., scored 404 runs for eight wickets (Donegliue 124, Turney 60, Grant 64). Playing against Tliorndon, Old Boys, in its first innings, made 200 (McColl, not out, 47, Barclay 46, Parsloe 43). Thorndon made 110 for three wickets (Phillips 43). Varsity, in its first innings against Kilbirnie, made 127 (R. Tripe 69). Kilbirnie made 157 for three wickets (Christopherson, not out, 74). Playing against Petone, Hutt, in its first innings, made 148 (Watson 38). Petone lost no wickets for 77 runs. For Petone Finlayson took six wickets for 40. Wellington, in its first innings against Institute, made 141 (Airey 76). Institute lost four wickets for 133 runs (Foley 77, not out). For Institute Massey took five wickets. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Senior cricket games were played yesterday in fine weather and on good wickets. The English coach, J. Newman, made his first appearance for West Christchurch. He took five wickets for 94 runs, but failed with the bat, being dismissed for two runs. West Christchurch and Linwood drew on the first innings, each side scoring 273. Batting for Linwood, G. Condliffe made 104 and R. Read 70. Riccarton made a desperate effort to retrieve the first day’s failure against St. Albans. Riccarton was 92 runs down on the first innings, but failed to dispose of St. Albans within the time limit. East Christchurch won against Old Collegians on the first innings by 65 runs. Batting for East Christchurch in the second innings, Gregory scored 64. Sydenham beat Old Boys by 280 runs for seven wickets, against 276 on the first innings. The match was a race against time, but Sydenham just passed the total. The best scorers were Young 115 not out, and W. R. Patrick 51.
