BALL BEATS BAT

Bowlers Secure Good Hauls in Saturday's Cricket

OPENING GAMES REVIEWED NOBODY managed to place a century opposite his name in the opening series of matches in the A.C.A. competitions on Saturday, but five players topped the fifty mark in the senior games. It was, however, largely a day for the bowlers, and some fine averages were secured. The wickets generally were on the slow side; but most of the grounds had made a good recovery from the gruelling they received in the football season. Most of the matches were sparsely attended, although the vigorous “community spirit” at North Shore was again pleasingly in evidence.
