An earthquake, described as tremendous and the largest in years, was recorded at the Fordham University thi3 morning. It is estimated that it was 2,278 miles away, possibly in Central South America. The shock was recorded on numerous other seismographs.—A. and N.Z. ’QUAKE IN ALASKA CABLE LINE SEVERED JUNEAU (Alaska), Mon. A severe earthquake rocked several points of Alaska, severing the cable between here and Skagway. Otherwise little damage is reported. The quakes followed a season of intense volcanic activities in the Aleutian Island, twenty active volcanoes being observed recently.—A. and N.Z.
