** * * MILADY IN TAILORED MOOD ■-— 8

The unanimity with which Milady decided that the tailleur was the thing for the closing day of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting left little to be said about to-day's modes as seen at Auckland’s charming racecourse. Here a fawn tailleur, there a gray or beige; now a. slim little trotteur in navy blue relieved with just a hint, of spring’s adored cherry red, with ever and anon a cosy fur wrap enveloping the most delightful frocks that were destined to remain hidden from one’s eager eyes. The gloomy frown with which the day commenced made it imperative that Milady should be warmly clad . . - and so she was. It was in vain that one waited for her, like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, to shed her wrap coat or fur, so one had to content oneself with admiring the luxury of those same furs and coats of a hundred materials and sigh as all the tailored modes filed by ... a procession of neatness and chic . . . but perhaps a tiny bit monotonous in their insis tent simplicity. The hats from under which Milady eagerly watched the races, were perhaps the most interesting things of the fashion kind to be seen to-day. They continued to be truly feminine in their diversity of colour and line and size, and' pert little models of the Lindbergh persuasion jauntily vied with chapeaux of enormous width. The accessories with which the smartest of ensembles were completed were fascinating in their numbers, and included many charming novelties. Bags were as capacious as ever, and as colourful, in most cases matching either their owner’s hat or gown. Jewellery was worn more than it has been for some time, and certainly there was more variety in that phase of fashion than there has been. Numerous bracelets, necklets of snakily twisted gold bands, close fitting collars of gold, reminiscent of an overgrown slave bangle and a myriad other charming fancies were seen. Among those present were: Mrs. H. O. Nolan, pretty frock of goblin blue crepe de chine worn with fur coat. Mrs. M. M.
