New Lyrin School. —Cabinet has approved the grant for two additional rooms at the New Lynn School, and notification of this has been given by Mr. H. G. R. Mason, whose representations on the subject have been persistent. Breach of Prohibition Order. —As the result of procuring liquor while the subject of a prohibition order, a young man was fined 10s and costs 10s at the Te Awamutu court on Thursday. The person who supplied the liquor* was fined £2 and costs 10s. Lyttelton Railway. —The tenders of Cory Wright and Salmon, Wellington, have been accepted for the supply of electric locomotives for the Christ-church-Lyttelton railway and for overhead equipment, the amounts being £47,958 and £18,319 6s 7d respectively. Surveyors* Licences. —The following candidates have been successful in passing the examination for land surveyors’ licences:—Auckland: A. C. Bishop, L. J. Empen, and E. E. Service. Hamilton: W. L. Bygrave. Whangarei: Clark Walker and A. PI. Pickmere. Napier: K. A. Simcock.—Pres?; Association. Schools and Pupils Increasing.— There were 21 more primary schools in New Zealand at the end of 1926 than in December, 1925, and 2,083 more pupils. Of the totals of 2,601 schools and 216,807 scholars in the Dominion the Auckland Province had 768 and 65,888 respectively. Tauranga Railway Wharf. —A working agreement for the working of the railway wharf has been arranged between the Railway Department and the Tauranga Harbour Board. It is expected that the official opening of the new railway will take place about the end of this month. Tauranga Harbour Funds. —The Tauranga Harbour Board has decided that £ 5,000 of its funds now in the post office savings bank be invested in post office investment certificates and the chairman and secretary were given the necessary authority. Taupo Fishing. —The sp-ecial Taupo trout fishing regulations which forbid any person from fishing for trout in the Taupo district without a special licence are set out in a supplementary gazette. The regulations provide *for the issue of whole season, weekly, week-end and day licences at varying tees for women, district residents and other persons, and set out the streams and other places which are to be reserved for fly fishing, and stipulates . the restrictions on bait.
