COMPENSATION FOR ASSAULT PETITION TO PARLIAMENT (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Compensation from the Government, for loss said to have been suffered him through an assault upon him by exDetective W. R. Cooper, is sought by Henry Moroington Smith, of Wellington, in a petition presented to Parliament to-day by Mr. P. Fraser, Wellington Central. Smith recently took action in court against Cooper and was awarded £24 damages, and Cooper was dismissed from the force, but Smith says that he is unable to obtain satisfaction of judgment from the ex-detective. The proceedings, Smith states, have cost him £SO in the . performance of a public duty.
