UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
OVER FIFTY WORKING MAYORS FUND INCREASED This morning more men were added to the gangs on the unemployed relief works, making the total number for whom employment has been found 57. Of these 38 are at the museum, and 19 are employed at the new recreation ground near the old mill at Epsom. Most of the men are married, and it is hoped to increase the number considerably, especially if there is a spell of tine weather. The Epsom area contains nearly nine acres in two different sections, and it is an area of just under four acres that is being developed with the Mayor’s Fund. Two further large amounts have been added to the fund, being £ 100 each from Messrs. John Courts, Ltd., and the Auckland Gas Company. The fund has passed the £I,OOO mark, the latest details being: Previously acknowledged .. £912 14 6 Auckland Gas Company .. 100 0 0 John Court, Ltd 100 0 0 D. Duncan and Company .. 10 0 0 Dr. J. W.
