WHITE-ROBED MOURNERS
FUNERAL OF DANCER A STRIKING PROCESSION Bg Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright PARIS, Monday. Remarkable scenes were witnessed at the funeral of the late Madame Isadora Duncan, the American classical dancer, who was recently killed in a motoring accident. Thousands of people assembled at Perela-Chaise Cemetery, including well-known persons in the literary and artistic circles of Paris and the Latin Quarter. But the most striking incident was a long procession of friends of the deceased dancer. The men and women wore long white robes and sa.ndals on their feet, and. walked behind the bier, which was drawn by four lorses and covered with red, blue, white and yellow flowers. On reaching the crematorium there was £. rush for admission, and fighting took place in the doorways and the police had to be called up to close the doors.
Meanwhile, the French poet, N. Novorie, delivered the funeral oration inside the crematorium, while M. Raymond Duncan, the dancer’s brother, with long hair and wearing a white robe, mounted a rostrum and addressed the thousands of people outside.—A. and N.Z.
