FRANCES ALDA
TWO AUCKLAND CONCERTS A bundle of vitality impatient with laziness and unpreparedness, Frances Alda is a potent example of accomplishment and never-ceasing work. “Anyone who thinks an opera singer’s life is easy,” Madame Alda said recently, “should quiekly be told the truth. It is work, work, more and constant work, and never-ceasing care and watchfulness. Arrival in the rank of the so-called and elected elite does not mean an assured position there. Constant vigilance is necessary—-more work, less play; which doesn't sound very romantic and may dispel some of the illusion which seems to hover around the head of an artist, but it’s the truth, nevertheless.” Madame Alda will be heard at the Auckland Town Hall on Tuesday and Thursday of next week under the direction of Mr. D. D. O’Connor. Box plans will be opened at Lewis R. Eady and ‘Son’s, Ltd., on Friday morning-
