BEEF MARKET FIRM AT ADDINGTON LIGHTER ENTRIES CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. Entries were rather light at to-day’s Addington market and the sale was a very satisfactory one to venders. Fat cattle sold at better prices taan last week, fat sheep maintained recent values, and store sheep also met with a firm demand. Spring Lambs.—The entry ot’ 3S averaged from C2s to 46s Id, the majority realising over 355. Store Sheep.—The best of the ewes, wethers and hoggets sold well, but backward sorts barely made the same prices as last week. Ewes and lambs met with a good sale. Aged awes made 15s to 17s 6d; failing-mouthed halfbred ewes, 2Ss 3d; aged ewes and lambs. 13s t>d to ISs (all counted): low-conditioned soundmouthed ewes, 23s 3d; two and fourtoothed halfbred wethers, 31s to 33s 3d; four and six-toothed halfbred wethers, 30s to 335; inferior four and six-toothed halfbred wethers. 2<3s 9d to 2Ss 6d; crossbred wether hoggets. 19s lOd to 20s lOd; halfbred wether hoggets, 19s lOd to 20s lOd; crossbred ewe hoggets. 25s 4d to 26s 4d. Fat Sheep.—Outside sheep included several Southland lines, and a good proportion from Sou tlx Canterbury. These offerings topped the market. The sale varied by 2s to 2s 6d a head, but die market was as good as last week's. Vealers.—Good calves sold well. Twelve to IS-months-old calves, to £8 2s 6d; vealers, £3 to £6 10s; others, 10s to 455. Store Cattle.—Two pens of three-year station steers made £ll 2s 6d; two to three-year steers, £6 15s to £S; two-year heifers, to £3 15s.

Dairy Cows.—Values were down by up to 40s a head. Best second to fourth calvers made £6 to £8; others, £2 10s to £5 15s; heifers, £3 to £7. Fat Pigs.—Porkers sold at an advance. Most of the baconers were too heavy for the trade and sold at easier values. Choppers brought £3 to £5 ISs 6d; light baconers, £3 to £3 7s; heavy baconers, £3 15s to £4 4s 6d (average price a lab, 4sd to 65d); porkers, 43.3 to 535; heavy porkers, 57s to 62s (average price a lb, 7id to 9d). Store Pigs.—A very heavy entry met with a dragging sale. Weaners made 15s to 425; large stores, 34s to 425; sows in pig, to £4 15s. COUNTRY STOCK SALES The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile report holding sales during the past week at Westfield, Papakura, Clevedon, Warkworth and Pukekohe. Pig sales were also held at Pukekohe and Waiuki. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company reports a good entry of beef, with values on a par with late rates. Prime mutton was firm, but the market for medium quality sheep was slightly easier. Prices for large stores and best weaners showed an improvement.
