I. coates, was received by Mr. A. l'[ Waring, of Taupiri the Refor m Party candidate for the Raglan elecorate, at his opening address at Tau,,;ri last evening. Messages congratulating Mr. Warii g his select or and containing good wishes for his success were also reived from Mrs. Bollard and the Hon. r a Young. Mr E. H. N'crthcroft, of Auckland; resided over a large attendance. ' Referring to the period of depressh n which the country had just passed -hrough Mr. Waring said that tew „eopie realised the far-reaching effects th; war and the British coal strike, ■nd liow far those factors had contributed to that depression. The prosnects for those engaged in New Zeaand primary industries were now much brighter, and he fell, confident that a new era of prosperity wus dawning. Dealing wi h the question of taxation the candidate considered that farmers should tie relieved of tax ition bv the abolition of the land ta t. He also expressed his disapproval of the system of rating on unimproved values. Mr. War ins spoke for half an hour and also answered a number of questions.
