LIFE’S WORK FINISHED

DEATH OF REV. W. READY LONG SERVICE IN MINISTRY A splendid record of service in the Methodist ministry, including a period during the war in the hospital ship Maheno, was terminated by the death of the Rev. William Ready, of Auckland, -who died at Palmerston North early yesterday morning. The late Mr. Ready was born in London in 1860, and was educated in Devon, where ho studied for the ministry. He arrived in New Zealand in 1887, and did pioneer work for his church on Banks Peninsula, Canterbury. Mr. Ready had a full and very varied experience, and had the reputation of being one of the hardest workers in the Methodist Ministry, the deceased gentleman taking justifiable pride in the fact that for 39 years he never lost a Sunday’s appointment through illness. The late Mr. Ready started the Central Mission in Dunedin in 1890, and later served for ten years at Pitt Street, in Auckland, also two terms at the Durham Street Church, Christchurch. In 1912 he was appointed President of Conference. After the war the late Mr. Ready worked in the Kaiapoi and Christchurch districts. In 1921 he removed to Hamilton and was working in that district until he retired about 12 months ago and came to Auckland to live. Air. Ready had three sons, all of whom also served in the late war, one being killed. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Air. W. H. Ready, solicitor, of Auckland, and Arr. W. L. Ready.
