The Auckl tnd boxer, Charlie Purdy, 9st 101 b, defeated Johnny PiUdngton, 9st 7ilb, on points at the Sydney Stadium this evening In a 15-rounds contest. The American attacked furiously in the first few rounds, scoring wHI with rights to the head. The New Zealander evaded a number of wild rushed cleverly, but was al nost knocked out by a terrific right to the jaw in the second roum . In the next round Purdy a and scored well with lefts to the bod># but another right to the head fitead ‘d him, and he was co mpelled to clinchFor the next six rounds Purdy stemmed vicious attacks fron the American wi h a succession of lefts to the face, but in the next round the New Zealander was badly punishedHe recovered, however, and until th< thirteenth round scored the majority of the points. . , For the next two rounds Purdy things quietlv, and finished vrttn • good margin of points n his favour.
