AUCKLAND BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP
A MATCH DEFAULTED GOOD EXHIBITION GAME The match to have been played last evening between C. A. Stevenson and H. A. Randrup for the Billiards, Ltd. Shield, was won by default by the former owing to Randrup’s illness. An exhibition game was played between C. A. Stevenson and W. C. Hackett. Breaks of 32 and 43 aided Hackett in reaching the first hundred with a slight lead. Stevenson’s best break being one of 28. Both were playing the all-round game and were warmly applauded for some splendid spectacular shots. Breaks of 37 and 27 by Stevenson and of 20 and 21 by Hackett were the next happenings of note. At Ihe half-way mark Stevenson was oO odd in the lead, which he maintained by making further runs of 2i. 30 a nd 40. Hackett replied with 42 20, 2 and 22. Stevenson held his lead till the end, eventually winning by 81 points after a very interesting game. The final scores were: C. A. Stevenson. 500; breaks of 28, 37, 27, L, 20, 40 and 20; average, 8.7. W. E. Hackett. 419. breaks of 32, 43, 20, 22, 42, -0, and 22: average, 7.4. The second round of the dumpionship commences to-night, when M. 10. White and A. Massey will play.
