SPECIAL FREIGHT RATE

FOR ARTIFICIAL MANURE SULPHATE OF IRON INCLUDED Sulphate of iron has now been Included in the special freight rate issued by the Railway Department to cover the transportation of manure. Mr. T. H. Patterson, instructor of agriculture, states that sulphate of iron is specially efficacious in certain directions, and is quite a useful addition to soils for the purpose of helping to control fungoid diseases in plants. In lemon orchards it is particularly useful as a fertiliser. Experiments carried out at M.imaku experimental farm show that it also assists the control of tfush sickness when applied as a fertiliser dressing to farm lands. Instructions have already been issued, so that farmers will benefit by the cheaper flat rate under the regulations.
