NEW GILBERT STAR
COMING TO MAJESTIC King Vidor is a master of comedy as well as drama. No one who has seen this noted director’s “The Big Parade” will gainsay this. “The Big Parade” is just as funny as it is tragic; humour and pathos march through
it side by side. Vidor is repeating this sort of treatment in his new production, “Bardelys the Magnificent,” the MetroGoldwyn picture starring John Gilbert, which will be shown at the Majestic Theatre on Friday. In the cast is the laugh-
maker, Karl Dane, the tobacco chewing, uncouth Slim of “The Big Parade.” He has the role of Rodenard, the personal attendant of Bardelys, the hero, played by Gilbert. Two other recognised masters of comedy are in the production, George K. Arthur and John T. Murray. Their methods are diametrically opposed, but their results are the same. Lionel Belmores humorous characterisation is still different. The cast is one of the most notable assembled this season, and includes Roy D’Arcy, Arthur Lubin, Theodore Von Eltz, and Eleanor Boardman as leading woman.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has secured for release the new British feature picture starring Syd Chaplin, which is now being completed in London.
