ROTORUA SENIOR CUP TO ROTOITI
Cfreat interest was centred in Rotorua in the match Rotoiti v. Mamaku, the final of the Senior Cup being at stake. A win for Rotoiti gave them possession of the trophy, whereas if Mamaku succeeded a re-play between the two contestants would have eventuated. Play opened very quietly, and continued so for the first quarter, Mamaku if anything having the best of this quarter. Mamaku pressed hard in the second quarter and Rotoiti’s wing carried over the line. In endeavouring to kick he missed and dropped the ball, a Mamaku player falling on it to draw first blood. Mamaku 3, Rotoiti 0. Rotoiti then took a hand in the play and Sergeant, securing from a lineout, forced his way over to equalise Mamaku 3, Rotoiti 3. After half-time hard play ensued. Mamaku charged down an attempt to pot by Rotoiti’s fullback and carried play to the other line to score. Mamaku 6, Rotoiti 3. Rotoiti were not to be denied and Wallace scored. Mamaku G, Rotoiti 6 The game looked like resulting in a draw, but Waretini secured just on the call of time and scored near the posts Sergeant converted. Mamaku G, Rotoiti 11. For Rotoiti, Sergeant, Heke, MeHougall, Wallace, Waretini and Nirai were the pick. For Mamaku, Bradshaw and Donnelly were the best in the backs, while all their forwards played well.
