Sir,— When the competitions judge states that he does not consider quality of voice at all but merely the singers’ interpretation does he infer that songs are judged in the light of monologues only? And does quality mean soprano quality, bass quality, etc., or sensuous quality, beauty of tone (cultivation has changed ugly voices into very beautiful ones), or quality which includes clearness, volume and intensity ? BEWILDERED.
