QUEENSLAND TO STOP ALL TRAINS

DISMISSAL OF MEN BOLD COUNTER TO STRIKERS By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 11.15 a.m. BRISBANE, To-day. The Commissioner of Railways has issued instructions stating that as it has become impossible to continue operating the railways on the present basis, there is no option but to close down entirely for a short time. It is necessary, therefore, to dispense with the services of all employees from noon on Saturday. Employees desiring re-employment are invited to apply immediately. They will be required to sign an undertaking binding themselves to obey the rules and regulations, as they existed before the trouble arose. The General Secretary of the Australian Railways Union has issued a manifesto appealing to all unionists for support. Following upon the receipt of advices from Brisbane that the Queensland railwaymen would cease work on Saturday in sympathy with the dismissed railway workers, the New South Wales Railway Commissioners decided that from yesterday afternoon the departure of all trains to Queensland would be cancelled until further notice. Unless the dispute is settled within the next few days the trouble is expected to extend to the whole Commonwealth.—A. and N.Z.
