Gaol For Deserter. —Murdo MacLenlan a sailor, who deserted from the S.s’. Matatua, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, in the Police Court to-day.
An Overcoat Stolen. —Emily Stevenson. aged 41, and William James Court - nev. aged 42, who were charged at the Police Court to-day with stealing an overcoat,- were remanded to appear on September 8.
Mails Arriving. —The Chief Postmaster advises that the Union company’s steamer Marama, which is due at Wellington to-morrow from Sydney, has on boai’d 67 bags of Australian and Eastern mail for Auckland.
G.O.C. Eus Routes. —The Tramways Committee of the City Council is inspecting to-day the routes of thebus services previously run by the G.0.C., now the responsibility of the council. It is possible that a report will be made to the City Council in about a fortnight’s time. * Newmarket Drainage.— The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board to-morrow evening will deal with tenders dealing with new sewers in the Epsom -Mount Eden-Newmarket areas. The idea is to relieve the actue stormwater problem in Newmarket, and the work should be through by next -winter. Small City Fire. —A chimney fire at 5 Benson Road led to a call being received by the City Fire Brigade at 6.2 S p.m. yesterday. The blaze was easily' extinguished. The house, t-—*ch is owned by Mr. B. AVilKie and is occ-u----niod by Mr. W. McQueen, is insured for £ 950 in the Standard Insurance Company’s office.
